B2 is the level at which German stops being a subject you study and becomes a language you work in. You can sit in a meeting conducted at normal speed, read a report in your field, and argue a position properly rather than just stating it.
For Kenyan nurses it is the decisive level: recognition of a foreign nursing qualification requires B2 in almost every German state, alongside a specialist language examination. We run B2 in two six-week halves, B2.1 and B2.2, so you can see progress without committing to a single long block.

Goethe estimates 600–800 teaching units of 45 minutes from zero to reach B2 — roughly 450–600 clock hours. It is a wide range because it depends almost entirely on how much German you use outside class.

- The full passive range, including Zustandspassiv and passive with modals
- Konjunktiv I for reported speech

Modular — retake only what you failed
B2 is fully modular — sit and retake reading, listening, writing and speaking separately, as often as you need. All four must be passed within one year at the same centre for a single combined certificate. Goethe Nairobi prices single modules at KES 6,500 for external candidates. Note: several Kenyan websites still publish the pre-2019 B2 format with different timings — the numbers above are current.

Goethe's registration window is short — usually two days from 9:00am — and payment must clear inside it or the place goes to the next candidate. We'll warn you when it opens.

Nursing recognition (Anerkennung) in Germany
B2 is the standard requirement in almost every German state for recognising a foreign nursing qualification, alongside a specialist language examination (Fachsprachprüfung) in clinical German. A small number of states set B1 instead, so always check the state your employer is in. Anyone who tells you B1 is universally enough for nursing is oversimplifying.

B2 is the general rule for a German study visa. Note this is the visa threshold, not the university admission threshold — programmes taught in German usually want C1-level proof on top.

B2 is accepted for the apprenticeship-search visa and is what most German employers actually want, even though B1 is the legal minimum. B2 also scores the maximum 3 points for German on the Opportunity Card.

Normal, intensive or super intensive
Same syllabus, same exam, same fee — the difference is hours per week.
- Normal: The standard track. Three months per level for A1 to B1, at a pace that fits around a job or other study.
- Intensive: More contact hours each week, so you finish the same level sooner. For people working to a visa or application deadline.
- Super intensive: The fastest route we run. Full mornings or full afternoons, for learners who can commit to German as their main occupation.
