C1 German Course in Nairobi — Advanced Level
At C1 the work changes character. There is not much new grammar left; what you are building is precision, register and control — the difference between being understood and being taken seriously.
We are also going to be straight with you about what the certificate does and does not do, because a lot of Kenyan websites overstate it. The Goethe-Zertifikat C1 is accepted by many German universities, but it is not on the national list that automatically exempts you from a university's own language test. Details below.

Students heading for a German-taught degree, doctors and senior professionals, and anyone who wants German to stop being the limiting factor in their career.

- Work or study in German without language being the thing that holds you back
- Read long, demanding texts — legal, academic, professional — and pick up what is implied as well as what is stated
- Speak fluently and spontaneously, including in meetings and presentations, without visibly searching for words
- Write clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, controlling structure and connectives deliberately
Goethe estimates 800–1,000 teaching units of 45 minutes from zero to reach C1 — roughly 600–750 clock hours. It is a wide range because it depends almost entirely on how much German you use outside class.

The exam: Goethe-Zertifikat C1
Sat at the Goethe-Institut in Nairobi and paid for separately from your course. We prepare you for it and help you register.

Modular — retake only what you failed
C1 is fully modular — sit and retake each module separately. All four must be passed within one year at the same centre for a single combined certificate. Goethe Nairobi prices single modules at KES 6,750 for external candidates.

KES 27,000 external / KES 21,000 internal — or KES 6,750 per module externally
Goethe's registration window is short — usually two days from 9:00am — and payment must clear inside it or the place goes to the next candidate. We'll warn you when it opens.
What C1 actually unlocks
Checked against German government sources in August 2026 — including the parts other schools get wrong.
University study in German — read this carefully
The Goethe-Zertifikat C1 is accepted by many German universities, but it is not on the KMK's standing list of certificates that exempt you from a university's own German test. The proofs accepted everywhere are TestDaF at TDN 4 in all four sections, DSH-2, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, or Goethe-Zertifikat C2. Confirm with your specific university before you plan around a C1 certificate — a great many Kenyan websites get this wrong.
KMK framework regulation (RO-DT §8(2))Medical and senior professional roles
Doctors — as distinct from nurses, who need B2 — generally need C1 plus a medical Fachsprachprüfung. C1 is also the level at which you can take on senior, client-facing or leadership roles in a German-speaking organisation.
What C1 is no longer needed for
Citizenship. The three-year naturalisation fast track requiring C1 German was abolished in October 2025; the standard route is now five years' residence with B1. If a website is still advertising the C1 fast track, it is out of date.

Intake is open now
A new group starts at every level each month, and we take students all year round. Register and we confirm your level, your session and your start date — you are not waiting a term for a cohort to open.
Normal, intensive or super intensive
Same syllabus, same exam, same fee — the difference is hours per week.
- Normal: The standard track. Three months per level for A1 to B1, at a pace that fits around a job or other study.
- Intensive: More contact hours each week, so you finish the same level sooner. For people working to a visa or application deadline.
- Super intensive: The fastest route we run. Full mornings or full afternoons, for learners who can commit to German as their main occupation.
